A first impression
The small white tube you reach for on the days the skin has not been behaving – a patch of post-retinol peeling, the corner of a mouth that has cracked, the flush on a cheekbone that will not quite settle. Cicalfate+ is medical-looking, unscented, and entirely unbothered by whatever caused the problem.
Why eMaison chose it
In perimenopause, the skin barrier becomes less reliable – one week it holds, the next it reacts to the cleanser it has tolerated for a decade. Avène rebuilt Cicalfate around a postbiotic ingredient, C-Restore, and layered it over the brand's soothing thermal water base. The formula earned its place in a tightly edited maison because it does something specific and does it well: short-term repair, minor post-procedural soothing, and the kind of calming work that a richer moisturiser is not designed for. Fragrance-free and paraben-free – a careful formulation for skin that has become fussier.
How it fits into your rituals
Use it as a targeted repair, not a daily moisturiser. On nights when skin feels compromised, apply a thin layer as the final step, over cleansed and dried skin. Pair with A313 – Cicalfate+ on the reactive patches, A313 elsewhere – or layer it on the morning after a stronger treatment to quiet the skin before makeup. It sits well under SPF. Also reliable on cracked hands, chapped lips and the skin around a healing blemish.
What's in it
Avène thermal spring water, zinc oxide, copper and zinc sulphates, and the C-Restore postbiotic complex. Fragrance-free, paraben-free, non-comedogenic. A short, pharmaceutical-feeling list.
The honest note
Eleven pounds for a cream that quietly rescues the difficult weeks. If you have skin that reacts, keep one in the bathroom and one in your handbag.
